Demi Moore submits her chihuahua to Guinness as the shortest dog contender
It’s Friday, so here’s a dog story for you. On Wednesday, the Guinness World Records declared that a 1.22 lb chihuahua named Pearl was the World’s Shortest Living Dog. She was photographed next to a US dollar bill as she’s roughly the same size. Seeing this, actress Demi Moore thought, hang on a sec – my Pilaf might be shorter. So she reached into her purse and pulled out the smallest bill she could find – a $100 – and measured the little pup. Now she’s asking fans if she should submit Pilaf’s tiny self for consideration to snatch Pearl’s days-old crown.

Just days after a two-year-old chihuahua named Pearl was crowned the World’s Shortest Living Dog by Guinness World Records, the actress, 60, said she’s considering submitting her own furry companion for the title.
“@guinnessworldrecords just announced the World’s Shortest Dog today. I don’t know about you but I think Pilaf might give Pearl a run for her money! Should we submit @pilaf.littlemouse??” wrote Moore on Instagram Wednesday, sharing a series of snaps of Pilaf, who is also a chihuahua, being measured against a $100 bill.
Pearl measures 3.59 inches in height and is shorter than a popsicle stick and a standard TV remote, according to the Guinness World Records. In length, the pup measures just 5 inches — around the same size as a dollar bill.
When current record holder Pearl was born in September 2020, she weighed less than an ounce. Now aged two, the pooch weighs in at 1.22 lbs.
She is related to the previous holder of the shortest dog title, Miracle Milly, who measured 3.8 inches in height. Milly died in 2020, before Pearl — the daughter of one of Milly’s identical sisters — was born.
I can’t pick a side. On the one hand, Pearl’s a Nepo Puppy. Her aunt, Miracle Milly, practically handed the tiara to her. So the fix was in from the start. On the other hand, Pilaf has their own Instagram account with almost 8K followers. They’re an influencer! And Demi’s got a bribe right there in the ‘submission’ photo. Her caption should read “crown Pilaf and there are a couple more of these Benny’s in it for you.” The whole thing is rigged, no matter who Guinness selects. They should strip the title from both and give it to some poor dog who doesn’t have the advantages Pearl and Pilaf are so clearly exploiting. Otherwise, it will completely delegitimize the awarding of records of things we really don’t care about!
Also, shortest is head to tail? Do they have another record that measures those tiny little legs? Clearly, I find this all kind of funny. But that’s only because my daughter hasn’t walked in yet to lecture me about inbreeding and the health impairments this kind of genetic farming for cuteness has caused.
